Ryan Boon is a speciality butcher based in the Boland of the Western Cape. He started his butchery operation with his wife Soné in 2011, and now supplies some of the finest restaurants in and around Cape Town.

Ryan Boon source their beef from 2 suppliers – Langside Meats and Fairfields Farm in Napier.

Fairfields follow the Greenfields Protocol. In order for beef to be sold as Greenfields Free Range Beef the following protocol is followed:
* The animals must be able to range freely over large camps/pastures with unlimited access to grass and fresh water at all times.
* The animals are grass-fed. In harsh circumstances supplementation is necessary but this supplementation is naturally conserved hay or silage. Grain may not exceed 5% of the total dry matter intake over the lifetime of the animal.
* No animal by-products are allowed
* No growth hormones, steroids, or stimulants are allowed
* Greenfield’s beef adheres to the four pillars of free-range ethics:
* Free access to food and fresh water in large camps/pastures.
* Freedom from sickness and disease
* Freedom from pain and suffering
* Freedom to express natural behaviour.

Extensive grassy planes, interspersed with Acacia trees offers an ideal, natural habitat for cattle. This sweet veld is of an excellent quality to fatten the herds, with a high nutrient content from a large variety of grass types, excellent for beef production. It enables Langside Meats to run their herds purely off the veld, without having to give them extra feed to keep up their condition, even in the dry years.

The attraction of good, grass fed-beef is its health benefits and wonderful, farm fresh quality. Quite simply ~ veld reared beef is the healthier option and it tastes superb!

We produce healthy beef as there are absolutely no antibiotics, steroids or growth hormones given to our cattle, and no preservatives in the beef, which produces healthier, better-tasting beef. Our beef has the right balance of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) and vitamin E.
